Relationship matrix
The relationship between each customer requirement and every design requirement is assessed and entered in the matrix. The symbols shown in on the left are more intuitive and are preferred by many. If you would rather use the ones on the right, it is a simple matter to switch between them

For each cell in the matrix, the question should be asked: "Does this design requirement have an influence on our ability to satisfy the customer requirement?" If there is a relationship, its strength should be assessed in terms of "strong", "medium", or "weak". It should be noted that the design requirement may have a negative influence on the customer requirement. This is still a valid relationship, and its strength should be evaluated in the normal way.
TeamSET QFD has been designed to be easy to use. QFD is not a simple tool to apply, and in a workshop environment, with a facilitator leading the team and operating the computer, the last thing the facilitator wants is to have to concentrate unduly on the software. A few of the features designed to make life easier are:
- Navigation and data entry by mouse or keyboard
- 'Single keystroke' data entry & movement to next cell - along row or down column
- Highlighted customer and design requirements
- Optional floating label to identify selected cell
